ABSTRACT

This discussion has concentrated on two main issues. First, it has evaluated the specific concerns raised by genetic research, which become even more prominent in human population genetic research (HPGR). Secondly, by analysing the characteristics of target groups in HPGR, the vulnerability and cultural sensitivity of target groups in HPGR in developing countries has been considered. Behind these discussions has been the fundamental question as to whether or not the interests of target groups in HPGR in developing countries could be adequately protected by the current Western legal and ethical framework on human subject research. It has also been proposed that there should be a new ethical autonomy model and relevant regulations on group interest protection in HPGR in developing countries.
