ABSTRACT
Introduction to Part 2: applying theory to practice This chapter begins Part 2 of the book, in which we examine some applications of the theoretical material considered in Part 1. You should by now be familiar with some principal ideas about how students learn and the relations between their approaches to learning the quality of their learning, and the context of learning in higher education. We have seen how these concepts could be used to clarify the nature of good teaching and how they might be linked together into a way of understanding the process of instruction which explains variation in teaching quality using the simple device of different theories of teaching.
