ABSTRACT

The debates about globalization are curiously disembodied. While the recent discourses of the body tend to ignore the cultural weight and economic impact of globalization, the debates on globalization fail to mention the importance of the body. One is so concentrated on the micro that it ignores the macro while the other, in focusing on the global, loses sight of the embodied local. In this chapter I want to focus attention on the discursive space that lies between the global, the urban and the body and to outline possible connections that may be worthy of exploration and further discussion.
