ABSTRACT

Part III of this publication examines abuse and violence towards children in the context of competitive sport. While the forms of abuse covered in Chapters 8-10 are self-explicit, the subjects of Chapters 6 and 7 require some clarification. Chapter 6 examines child abuse in general and looks at whether some extreme forms of early intensive training can be qualified as child abuse. It also looks at how the right to rest relates to competitive sports and how its negligence can lead to child abuse. Chapter 7 covers more specifically different forms of physical abuse and violence that can negatively affect young athletes.
