ABSTRACT

This chapter examines organizational development and the management of change, looking at reasons why organizations find they need to change and the difficulties inherent in managing change programmes. Some of these difficulties stem from resistance to change from employees and from management. Some just stem from poor management, lack of understanding of what is involved and lack of consideration for the people involved and the impact on them and on their lives both in and out of work. The chapter also explores at a variety of theoretical approaches to change and at managing change through the medium of projects. It focuses on the financial services sector, although all the approaches that is applicable to the sector just as they are to organizations elsewhere. The names of techniques to change management are probably less important than the various steps that are used in managing organizational development and the management of change.
