ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we want to move forward beyond the core themes we have explored thus far in the book to provide an overview of the key arguments we have developed in the book thus far and look forward at some of the emerging issues that are likely to shape research agendas and debates in the future. In the first part of the chapter, we outline some of the main thematic links that emerge from the arguments that we have developed in the book as a whole. This allows us to revisit the key conceptual issues that we focused on in the book and look forward to the new conceptual challenges that are emerging in the current conjuncture. The second part of the chapter is focused on the ways in which contemporary trends, both within academic debates and within society more generally, are likely to structure future developments as to how questions about race and ethnicity are dealt with both within the political sphere and in civil society.
