ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the development of contemporary forms of antisemitism and the linkages between them and the broader phenomenon of racism. We shall also look at the potential to bring about more dialogue, debate, and analysis between scholars and researchers working on racism and racial relations and those interested in the evolution and impact of contemporary forms of antisemitism. Linked to this central concern, we shall also outline some of the efforts to link these two fields of scholarship together both within the sociology of race and ethnicity and in the broader literatures on how best to understand the evolution and development of contemporary forms of antisemitism. The chapter also explores current debates about the emergence of new forms of antisemitism and the political environment that has led to these ongoing discussions.
