ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the analysis of two related bodies of scholarship and research. First, the discussions about the emergence of new forms of racism, particularly those that focused on ideas about culture and difference. We have seen a proliferation of new discourses about race over the past few decades, and the first part of the chapter provides an overview of these discussions and their implications for scholarship and research. The chapter then moves on to discuss the argument that we have moved towards a post-racial situation in some societies and seeks to explore what this analytical frame implies for how we understand the role of racial and ethnic differences in contemporary societies.
