ABSTRACT
The hydra-headed debates about sociological work naturally have implications for the sociology of organisations. Indeed what sociologists think they know about organisations is sometimes thrown into the argument. The critiques and apologias referred to in the title of this chapter can best be explained through illustration. It will become evident that some critiques are mutually supportive but others appear to be mutually exclusive.
