ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the principles and process of managing change. The classic model of organizational change proposed by Kurt Lewin is introduced as a simple theoretical framework for managing change. Governance Professional leagues are governed through a league system that has centralized management power. Franchise owners share collectively in decision making and establishment of league-wide policies and rules for league and franchise operation. The power of oversight and rule implementation falls to a commissioner and/or league presidents. Professional league sport is probably the most high profile of all industry segments. It attracts the most media attention, and being a fan or supporter of a particular team has become an important part of many people’s daily lives across the globe. Professional league sports are characterized by their delivery of the highest level of sport competition and that athletes who play professionally are financially compensated for participation.
