ABSTRACT

They created an initial baseline analysis by counting recyclable cup lids and weighting recyclable containers and paper mixed in the garbage. They then made faculty and staff announcements and posted maps to recycling locations and did another audit. The percentage of recyclable material mixed with garbage was lowered. More recycling/garbage stations were added and some garbage-only containers removed from sites with heavy traffi c. These simple changes led to an even lower percentage of mixed materials in the garbage when a second audit was completed.
