ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the key dynamics of coercive persuasion and contextualises these dynamics within modern corporate culturalism, one of its strongest manifestations. I begin by developing coercive persuasion as a concept and situate its roots in contemporary theories of power, conformity and leadership. I draw extensively on Schein’s ( 1961 ) foundational work on coercive persuasion to develop a framework for describing and assessing the techniques that often shape conformity in organizational practice.
