It is generally recognized that intellectually gifted children tend to display a precocious development of speech.
The rapid acquisition of vocabulary, quick build-up of relatively complex sentences and precision of speech, interest in words, and desire to experiment with words between, say, one and a half and three years, do seem to be characteristic of later intelligence.
