ABSTRACT

Leta Hollingworth wrote this at the conclusion of her longitudinal study of young people of IQ 180 and above. She had followed her subjects through from childhood into adulthood and was well qualified to make the observations noted above. The ‘experimental classes’ to which she refers were full time self-contained classes for intellectually gifted children. Hollingworth was a passionate advocate of the use of acceleration and ability grouping to facilitate both the academic and social development of gifted students.
