ABSTRACT

The discussion concludes in this chapter by drawing together the various strands examined throughout this book to suggest a new model for measuring quality in planning. What is suggested is a move from the reductionist approaches to quality measurement that have been used across the built environment disciplines (particularly in planning), to a holistic approach that recognises the need to think in terms of three distinct but interlinked dimensions of quality. The chapter begins by reviewing the key findings from the empirical research reported over the three previous chapters, moves on to discuss the range of possible tools/models at the disposal of those responsible for quality measurement that may be adapted for the purposes of quality measurement in planning, advances a new model for quality measurement in planning, and concludes by revisiting the original research aims and objectives in the light of the proposals.
