ABSTRACT
This chapter will introduce theories about parenting styles and the impact these have upon learning. Child development is explained through the use of psychoanalytical, cognitive and learning theories. We go on to look at motivation which is of key importance for learning and linked to this the physiological, cognitive and humanist theories of motivation along with the concept of emotional intelligence.
