ABSTRACT

We are taking askif on the asqqif. The askif is breakfast: semolina soup with saffron, dates, bread, olive oil, and of course mint tea. As it turns out, the asqqif is a sort of loggia (a semi-covered terrace; the word appears to be derived from the Arabic “roof”), or a living room with an open doorway or a hallway. You could call it a belvedere given how beautiful the view is (Figure 4.1).
