ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses single or unified global pornography industry, which is collection of networks and clusters evolved according to local and national conditions. The chapter examines how the pornography industry manifests beyond North America over three locales: the United Kingdom, mainland Europe and China. Many factors around regulation, regional industrial capabilities, social and cultural norms around sex and sexuality, and political led to an uneven dispersal of the adult-flim sector across these locales. In UK, 'top shelf' refers to the highest shelf in newsagents where pornographic magazines are usually stocked, too high for children to see or reach. Pornography industry in UK is primarily regulated by five laws, in which OPA has the most influential effect. OPA constitutes 'indecent' or 'obscene' that left to the discretion of those who enforced the statutes. In absence of domestic online pornography industry, domestic sex toys industry thrived. China produced seventy percent of the world's erotic 'toys and novelties'.
