ABSTRACT

When they pass one of the gates, a guy shouts: “Hey, moffie, what are you doing here?” One of John’s friends has become so drunk that they need to support him while they walk. They are discussing whether it would be better for him to stay over at one of their places so his parents do not see him in this condition. The guy shouting stands behind a tall gate with a beer in his hand. Four friends of his are also behind the gate. They have been braaing (barbecuing) in the garden. John explains to me that his first thought was to ignore the guy, who just seemed bored, but when he repeated his accusations, he felt anger and decided something had to be done.
