ABSTRACT
This book is aimed in the first instance at student teachers in secondary schools who are about to complete their period of training and looking ahead to their first years in teaching. However, it will also interest newly qualified teachers and those responsible for mentoring and supporting student and newly qualified teachers. The book aims to:
• help orient you through your first years of teaching; • highlight the satisfaction of teaching; • describe successful strategies new teachers have taken to develop
their teaching; • review some of the challenges and difficulties you might face in
the classroom and provide advice to meet those challenges; • provide signposts to relevant resources; • help you reflect on your career and plan your professional devel-
