ABSTRACT
A true truss is a stable configuration of bars connected by pinned joints. Because the joints are pinned, no moment is transferred along a bar. Therefore, the direction of any bar force is along its axis. Each bar transfers an axial force in either compression or tension. Bar forces in compression have arrows pointing away from each other ← → and bar forces in tension are indicated by arrows pointing toward each other → ←.
