ABSTRACT

In order to develop the theoretical perspectives on policymaking in modernity, it is worth considering, in two ways, individuals' relationships with cultural policy. The following chapter considers the question of cultural consumption, through the lens of sociological debate about the extent to which people are becoming more ‘omnivorous’ in their tastes. This debate takes place in the shadow of the individualisation thesis, a debate that is central to how chapter 4 considers the creative economy and ‘creative’ labour.
