ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces you to a wide variety of farming activities for which the only common feature is that they result in other products than food. You will read about cotton and other natural fibres from plants, and about wool, hides and other materials of animal origin. Moreover, we will pay some attention to large-scale production of cut flowers, which is an expanding sector. According to the wide definition of non-foods that is applied in this chapter, we will also study recycling, for example of animal manure, which can be seen as a kind of production of inputs for continued production.
