ABSTRACT

There are inescapable correlations between farming and the number of mouths that can be fed. World food supply is more complicated than that, but it is undeniable that the initial stages of the food chain impact the final stages and vice versa. We are currently experiencing substantial increases in total world population, in parallel with worries about environmental constraints such as climate change, water supply and use of non-renewable resources. Each of these phenomena has consequences for farming and has contributed to increased concerns about the global food supply.
