ABSTRACT

It's important to fire the imagination, and help children develop a deeper understanding by ‘making things real’. When we tell a story, whether it's to an individual or a group, we are building a common landscape together. We create the picture that's in our mind with the words we choose, and then we hopefully transfer it to the minds of our audience. To enhance the experience we can use props, or settings, which complement our words. We get them involved so that they can take ownership of the landscape and become immersed in the pictures we have created. With this in mind, the activities this month are about building a common landscape, using words, pictures and our surroundings as stepping stones to learning.
