ABSTRACT

Circumcision, the ceremony that makes the phallus the privileged site of scripture, the site of writing and the mark of the chosen, also makes the phallus the place where scripture fails and the body triumphs. This site, where the word is written on the body, is at once weapon and wound, sign and stigma. From this small drawing of blood much writing and much blood will flow. On this site of founding and inauguration, much will come to an end.
