ABSTRACT
Although the extent of natural habitat for outdoor activity varies in different regions of the United States and throughout the world, overall there has been a strong trend toward loss of such habitat since the mid-1950s. The loss of habitat has three main causes: the dominance of automotive vehicles; the growth in population; and pollution.
