ABSTRACT

Play is a ubiquitous activity of young children. Exploratory and sensorimotor types of play are primary during the early infancy period, and during the first years of life symbolic play begins and reciprocal social games emerge. These early play behaviors form the basis for play throughout life (Bergen, 1998). As significant developmental changes occur during the first four years of life in children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive domains, concomitant progressive changes occur in play.
