ABSTRACT
I have suggested that, instead of a single distinguishing mark for man, we look rather for a knot of general structural properties, and have considered how language might form part of such a knot, instead of being an isolated miracle. This chapter will do the same for that other most venerable and impressive candidate for the position of distinguishing mark, rationality.
