ABSTRACT

This banking/finance and law component has a very distinctive service field linking key primary field cities in the former Soviet realm (Moscow, Prague, Warsaw and Budapest) with primary field cities in Western Europe (Figure 6.2). These include all German cities in the data, with Frankfurt and Munich taking the role of pan-European articulators. Outside Germany, London and Paris are the two leading West European primary field cities. This is a pan-European pattern in the traditional sense of linking east and west; both North (Scandinavian) and South (Mediterranean) European cities (with the exception of Milan) are not to be found among the primary field cities.
