ABSTRACT

These are square or rectangular concrete slabs used where loads are carried by concrete columns, stanchions or isolated brick piers. The size of the pad depends upon the load on the column base and the bearing capacity of the soil. On soils of good bearing capacity a mass concrete base may be economical. Fig 1 shows an example of a mass concrete pad foundation to a stanchion. In this case the thickness of the pad ‘T’ must be at least equal to the projection ‘P’ from the edge of the steel base plate.
