ABSTRACT

Wear resistance is related to density, cork tiles are available in thicknesses of 3mm

upwards and densities range from low, 450kg/m3 to extra heavy density of over 580kg/3. Tiles should be exposed for 48 hours in the area where they are to be laid so as to

ensure dimensional stability. They are bedded in an appropriate adhesive and may be secured with headless steel pins. May be wax polished or treated with a suitable sealer when dry. They provide a firm non-slip surface, (unless polished over a sealer) and give a significant reduction to impact sound transmission. Cork tiles may be laid over any level sub-floor, but it must be dry and a damp-proof membrane is required. When laid on a timber sub-floor a hardboard underlay is recommended.
