ABSTRACT

Towards the middle of May 1943 the trawler Prodigal arrived in the Mediterranean, but the swiftly changing conditions in this theatre of operations had made it impossible to use her on clandestine activities after the manner of Tarana in the Gibraltar days. She did, however, carry out a few irregular operations from Algiers and, in the following month, she became the pioneer of the Mediterranean Ferry Service. This service was run by ACF for the benefit of the numerous secret organisations then operating, who, owing to the shipping scarcity, were finding it difficult to obtain transport for priority stores and personnel.
