ABSTRACT
It may be that this book will be interpreted by some as yet another example of a man-bashing tirade. If this is the perception of some who read it, I regard that as unfortunate. To produce such a tirade is certainly not my intention. In the preparation of this book, I have intended throughout to examine as objectively as possible the relevant research literature. On the occasions when those sources do not exist, I have sought to use other literature. Adopting as academic an orientation as possible, I have strenuously avoided a selective approach to the literature. Such selection obviously would have had the effect of introducing some personal bias. Even after using the most efficient searching techniques, though, it is possible that some of the existing literature has been overlooked. If this is the case, it is in no way deliberate.
