ABSTRACT

On the basis of this modified model of humanness, the ethical approach to genetically modified athletes must depart from recognising the possibility for athletes to be moral agents. If such a capacity is deserved, then we must ask what kinds of dialogue such ethical engagement might entail. It requires athletes to question the value of genetic modification in sport, taking into account the possible harms and benefits. In short, the principle involves athletes acting as moral agents, asking whether genetic modification in sport is ethically unsound for sport and why this might be so.
