ABSTRACT

EWCs came into being as a result of the EWC Directive (1994), and are crossborder meetings between worker representatives and managers of companies with businesses in more than one country. Every enterprise with at least 150 employees in each of at least two countries and a total of at least 1,000 employees in the European Economic Area (EEA) is required to have an EWC. The procedure for consultation is if at least 150 employees from at least two countries require it. The meetings are for information and consultation purposes, not collective bargaining, as employee representatives have no powers to block management decisions.
