ABSTRACT

When the overall incidence of disciplinary sanctions is accounted for, more HI workplaces discipline their employees in AIS and the PSS (Table 7.3). Even though a sizeable minority of HI firms imposed no disciplinary sanctions, the use of any disciplinary sanction is more likely to occur in HI workplaces (one in 1.77) than in AIS (one in 2.24) and PSS workplaces (one in 2.17). The number of disciplinary sanctions applied is greater. HI workplaces (over half) are significantly more likely to impose ten or more disciplinary sanctions per 1,000 employees. This is even higher in very small workplaces (three-quarters) and restaurants (89 per cent). Similarly the mean number of dismissals per 1,000 employees is significantly higher in the HI.
