ABSTRACT
It is important to understand Enlightenment and Romantic approaches to nature both as part of the broad development of thinking about environmental representations and because modern environmental values and actions relate directly to this legacy. Present-day environmental representations show the extent to which these ideas have become central parts of the taken-for-granted ways in which people think about themselves in relation to the world. As a final reflection on these ideas, we would ask you to consider Exercise 5.6.
