ABSTRACT

Israel has always been characterized by a bewildering number and an extremely high turnover of political parties.1 Not only does the Knesset (Israeli parliament) include representatives of many lists at any one time; the constant splintering, renaming and recombining of parties leads to a situation where at each election, certain lists enter the Knesset for the first, and maybe the last time. From this vantage point, at least, Israeli politics seems a very fickle affair.
