ABSTRACT
President Sadat’s historic visit to Israel in November 1977 was vehemently condemned throughout the Arab world. Other Arab states and the PLO objected to his apparent willingness to sign a separate peace agreement with Israel. They accused the leader of the largest and most powerful Arab nation of having given up the struggle for an independent Palestinian state. He had become a traitor to the cause.
