ABSTRACT

Son of Apollo and Evadne. He was born in the open country because Evadne, when she became pregnant, was terrified of her father’s anger. She hid Iamus in a thicket, where a couple of serpents brought him honey. Evadne’s father Aepytus, king of Phaesane, was told by the Delphic Oracle that the child was Apollo’s, and would inherit his father’s mastery of the prophetic art. He founded the clan of the Iamids, who were professional soothsayers.
