ABSTRACT

In the Iliad Aias is second only to Achilles among the Greek warriors in his prowess as a powerful fighting man; with his huge shield, he looked like a tower as he went into battle. He spoke little and slowly, but he had a good heart and tremendous courage. He often fought alongside his half-brother Teucer, the archer who shot from the shelter of the shield, and also the other Aias. He was a bulwark of the Greeks and often protected their rear in dangerous situations.
