ABSTRACT

A nymph of Mount Ida near Troy, and a daughter of the River Cebren. She married Paris before he knew he was a Trojan prince. Later, influenced by the prophetic gift she had received from Rhea, she tried to dissuade him from going to find Helen in Sparta. In spite of his refusal to listen, Oenone told Paris to come to her if he were ever wounded, for she had great skill as a healer. Years later, when Paris was wounded by Philoctetes, he was taken to Oenone, but now, on account of his desertion of her, she refused to help him. Paris was carried back to Troy. Then, repenting, she rushed after him, only to find him dead on her arrival. In her grief she hanged herself.
