A poor man of Thynia in Thrace, who, in spite of all his hard work, grew ever poorer. The seer Phineus, king of Salmydessus, told him that he had unwittingly killed a Hamadryad (tree-nymph) by chopping down her tree, and was consequently under a curse. After sacrificing to appease the nymph’s ghost, his luck turned. When Phineus was pestered by the Harpies, Paraebius in gratitude helped him.
