ABSTRACT

Daughter of Ares and Aglaurus 2. She was raped at Athens by Halirrhothius, a son of Poseidon and the nymph Euryte, and Ares stuck him down for the crime. For this Ares himself had to stand trial, accused by Poseidon at the place of the rape, which was subsequently called Ares’ Hill (Areopagos) and became the seat of the most august council and court of Athens. At this first of all murder trials, Ares was acquitted by a jury consisting of the other great Olympian gods.
