ABSTRACT

Son of Strophius 1, king of Phocis, and his wife Anaxibia, Agatnemnon’s sister. His cousin Orestes, in order to be safe from the usurper Aegisthus, was brought to Strophius’ court by Electra, and Pylades grew up as his companion. Pylades helped Orestes in the killing of Clytemnestra, and Strophius banished him from Phocis for his part in her death. According to one account Pylades fetched Iphigenia (who, in this version, had not been sacrificed at Aulis) home from the Tauric Chersonese. He also killed Neoptolemus at Delphi, and married Electra, who bore him two sons, Medon and Strophius 2.
