It was also said that Demophon married the Thracian princess Phyllis; in this version (disagreeing with the story that her bridegroom was Acamas) she hanged herself in despair when Demophon did not return, and was turned into an almond tree. She did not, however, put forth leaves until the day her husband finally came back, when, in his grief, he put his arms round the tree and kissed it.
