ABSTRACT

Son of Zeus and of the rivernymph Aegina, daughter of the river Asopus. Zeus, in the form of an eagle, carried her off from her home in Sicyon to an island off the coast of Argolis which later took her name. After she had borne Aeacus she left him on the deserted island, and he prayed to Zeus that it should be peopled. Zeus made men from the ants (myrmekes), and Aeacus called them the Myrmidons.
