ABSTRACT

Although the South Delhi barsati (rooftop apartment) in which I was living was a very comfortable refuge from the 100-degree temperatures of a typical Delhi spring, I jumped at the opportunity to accompany my good friend Parag on one of his many business trips out of the city. Parag is a Bombay-based architect and interior designer whose client list reads like a Who's Who of India's rich and famous. On this trip, he was heading to the tourist cities of Agra and Jaipur to check on a project he was undertaking for one of the city's leading jewelers and to source materials for some of his other projects.
