ABSTRACT
The past performs a pivotal role in the selling of places. In an effort to enhance the
appeal and interest of places, city marketers increasingly exploit the history of their
locale as an important cultural capital to lure inward investment from enterprises,
visitors, and shoppers.1 In the process, they consciously repackage culture and
history to convert them into commodities that can be bought and sold in their own
right.
